Yet Another vocab Tester — helps with Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic (for example) — β
Yet Another vocab Tester is designed to help you memorise vocabulary and grammatical paradigms (declensions, conjugations, etc.). It is an electronic set of flash-cards, which will adapt to your progress. It will track your success on each word and keep testing you where you are struggling, while gradually phasing out words that you clearly know.
Installing and running is easy

How does this compare with existing software?
There is a clue in the name: I’ve written yet another application to add to the vocab testing software out there, especially for Biblical languages. YAT is an improvement driven by the needs of fellow students in the following ways:
- It works on all platforms that run Java.
- It doesn't require (but does allow) use of the mouse during testing.
- Configuring tests is straight-forward and doesn’t tie your hands in advance.
- It is much easier to enter new vocab in Greek and, especially, Hebrew and Aramaic. It comes with a virtual keyboard which will show you the layout of your keyboard as you enter Greek or Hebrew/Aramaic.
- Because it uses Unicode, your questions and answers can enjoy a mixture of Greek/Hebrew with English. So you can ask, e.g., "ἐπι +dat" or see "דּבר (Piel)".
- It is Open Source, Free Software, which means that anyone can get hold of and improve it; you're not dependant on the original author. Because it's written in Java, you're also not tied to a proprietary and expensive development platform, if you choose to improve the program.
- Nonetheless, for now at least, the original author is committed to improving it in light of your feedback.
- It uses Unicode so that you can transfer data from most applications. (It still works with non-Unicode fonts, so you can import data from older applications and some shameful new ones.)
- The combination of Unicode and a configurable set of fonts for each set of tests means that you can use this for just about any language in existence. If it’s possible to make that language appear on a computer, this application can almost certainly test you on it.
